Viking respects and protects the privacy of our customers and all visitors to the Viking online store. In the collection, processing and use of your personal data, we comply with the legal provisions of the Data Protection Act 2000. (Datenschutzgesetz 2000)

Collection, processing and use of your personal data

The Viking online shop requests information from the user at different places. For example we collect and/or require information, when you:

  • Set up an internet account with our web site to shop online or when you login
  • place orders on our web site
  • request order tracking information
  • Participate in an online contest or a survey
  • Pay with credit card
  • Request a catalogue
  • Sent an email via the contact form

In these cases, the user may be asked to specify some or all of the information listed below. These information will be used, for example, if problems occur during the order processing or execution of delivery and contact must be made with the customer:

  • Your name
  • Your Email
  • Your shipping address
  • Credit card information
  • Other contact details

We monitor the buying behavior in our shop and collect demographic information to analyze trends and to improve the website. This enables us not only to optimize the layout and design, but also to create a customized website specially adapted to customer needs. To perform such analyses, we cooperate in circumstances with appropriate third parties we disclose only the information that is necessary to perform such analyzes. These statistics do not include personal data.

We collect, store and process your data for the entire process of your purchase, including any later warranties for our services, the technical administration, as well as our own marketing purposes. Your personal data may only be transferred or transmitted to third parties if this is required for the purpose of the contract or accounting or you have previously agreed. The service providers used by us (e.g. carriers, logistics, banks) will hereby receive the required data for order processing within the framework of the execution of the purchase order. These third parties will only use your data for those purposes, and will only have access to the data needed to perform the relevant service they are providing.

Use of your personal data for advertising purposes

Viking can collect and process address and ordering information for our own advertising purposes. When sharing data for third party marketing purposes only such data is passed on and in such a form as permitted by law. The newsletter is exclusively sent to you, if you have previously explicitly agreed. If you not wish to receive the newsletter from us, you can object at any time.

We undertake various measures to ensure a high level of information security for our customers whilst using our online service.

Credit Card and Personal Information

Viking treats your data strictly confidential, e.g. data transmitted when entering your credit card. Your personal data will be stored on secure servers and not released to a third party without your explicit written authorization.

Pages on our website that request payment information are transmitted via a secure server and are protected using SSL technology.

Once you entered your credit card number, we will never display the entire card number, only the first four digits followed by placeholders. This also covers the use of the back button on your browser.

Secure Server (Secure Socket Layers SSL)

The Viking online shop is secure. We use the encryption technology SSL (Secure Socket Layer) to secure your data during the transmitting process. The software encrypts sensitive information such as your name, address and credit card details, which are passed between your computer and the Viking website. In this way they cannot be read by third parties.

As the Viking system for order processing is not connected to the Internet, your personal information is not accessible by third parties via internet. We protect your personal data stored by us against unauthorized access.

Standard server

Some browsers may experience problems with SSL enabled websites. If you are experiencing problems using our system under secure server, our standard server is available. Please note that the standard server does not encrypt your credit card information when transmitted. If you have any questions regarding this protection, please email our Customer Service.

Cookies

A cookie is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in your web browser on the hard drive of your computer. It contains information about the user, which will allow us to improve our online shop through personalization. For example we can store the contents of your shopping basket for your next visit by setting a cookie on our site. If a user does not want to use cookies or has disabled cookies, you will still be able to benefit from our online shop.

Presently fraudulent Emails are in circulation!

Due to recent events we inform you that are currently fraudulent emails in circulation that appear to be sent from us. These Emails probably contain a virus. We kindly request you not to open the attachment in particular (.zip file) and not to respond to these Emails. You recognize our own, correct Emails on the following criteria:

  • The sender always ends on … @viking.at or …@viking-email.at
  • In principle, we will send reminders by letter.
  • We never use expensive 0900 numbers.
  • We never ask for your login or password for your online account.
  • We always use a correctly and complete disclaimer in our Emails.

Right to information

Under the Data Protection Act 2000 (Datenschutzgesetz 2000), you have a right to free information about your stored data, if necessary a right to correction, barring or deletion of the data. The protection of your personal data is very important to us.
